Food and gift retailer Harry and David said today it plans on hiring 1,000 temporary workers to staff an Ohio call center.
After outsourcing its customer service for the past year, Harry and David said it will reopen its Hebron-based call center and hire for jobs to cover the holiday shopping season next fall and winter.
The Hebron facility has been operating with a small group of managers and support staff, but they will soon be joined by thousands of temporary workers.
Harry and David’s CEO said she was disappointed by the quality of work from the company contracted to handle its customer service.
“I am pleased to announce that we will be re-opening our call center facility in Hebron, Ohio, which will operate in conjunction with our Medford, Ore., call center,” said Kay Hong, interim CEO, in a letter to employees.
She continued, “We are confident that we will be able to improve customer service this year by ensuring that Harry & David representatives on the phone lines have more experience with our products and our brand, and by eliminating many of the issues that drove customer service calls in the first place.”
The Columbus Dispatch reports that Harry & David has gone through many changes in the past year, filing for bankruptcy last month and trying to move forward with a plan to reorganize and reduce debt.
The company has a store at Easton Town Center and at the outlet malls in Jeffersonville, Burbank and Aurora.
