For years Baby Boomers have been aggravated by young job applicants who use terms like, ‘uh,’ ‘like’ and ‘ya know’ excessively, and now there’s research that says it’s more than just an aggravation — it could well be a deal breaker.

That’s according to research conducted by the Department of Psychology, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. For the study, they set up mock job interviews with hiring professionals, and then spoke with the interviewers about their impressions.

Massachusetts job fair canceled due to lack of employer participation

After the minimum required number of employers failed to sign up, a Massachusetts job fair was subsequently canceled, according to USAToday.

The annual job fair is put on by the Taunton Employment Task Force, a Massachusetts employment organization that connects area job seekers with opportunities.

Twenty to 25 employers are needed for the fair scheduled for April 6, according to Richard Shafer, chairman of the Taunton Employment Task Force. But Shafer said only ten tables were reserved, leaving them no choice but to close the event.

The lack of employers means the Task Force will be unable to promote the fair and purchase advertising.

In a recent study conducted by the Chartered Management Institute they found that the area’s leaders required development in to become the best they could be included; Personal effectiveness, assertiveness, time-management, communication and listening skills and emotional intelligence.

Up to 30% of a company’s financial performance can be traced to the climate a leader creates. And up to 70% of the climate can be defined as how “emotionally intelligent” its workforce is.
