Alcohol bottling facility closes in Menlo Park, leaving 150 jobless

Diageo, the UK-based maker of Guinness, Smirnoff, Johnnie Walker and other brands, is shuttering its Menlo Park facility, according to an article published today by the Palo Alto Daily News.

The closure is expected to affect 150 jobs and will take place next month.

Because the plant has been operating for over 50 years, the union that represents the employees is scrambling to find another bottling company that will employ them.

The vast majority of the employees 128 are represented by the union, which also plans on negotiating extended severance packages.

They think they can make more money by putting these people out of work, Fred Pecker, secretary-treasurer of International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 6, told DailyNews.com.
