A friend told me his company needed to hire someone with my skills. This was a good friend who cared about my employment, and was willing to help where he could.
His brother was the hiring manager, and I knew I had the in I needed.
During the interview I could tell the job was mine. if I wanted it.
By the end of the interview I knew that while I could do and enjoy the job (I had already been pursuing JibberJobber, what would become my main revenue stream), I wasnt the RIGHT person for it.
The right person was a guy I had just met that had years of experience in what they needed. I met him at a network meeting for professionals in transition.

Alternative Route Route
I was on work experience at a student website over the summer when a newspaper article caught my eye. Janet Murray, a freelance education journalist was offering an alternative route into the trade by recruiting an aspiring journo to be trained on-the-job – as a paid apprentice.
The chosen candidate would spend four days a week interviewing, researching, writing and learning everything else she needed to know to make it in the trade.
The on-the-job training appealed to me. My previous jobs in customer service, finance and retail had taught me a thing or two about where I thrive. B

Jobs Jobs Plan
WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker John Boehner and President Barack Obama talked about jobs legislation Thursday in a 10-minute phone call today, the Ohio Republican’s office said.
Boehner told Obama that Republicans are willing to address new transportation and infrastructure spending but “in a fiscally responsible way.”
The Boehner-Obama conversation took place as Senate Republicans introduced legislation aimed at creating jobs by overhauling the nation’s tax laws, cutting business rules and boosting offshore oil exploration.
The GOP bill is called the “Jobs Through Growth Act” and doesn’t include a single item in President Barack Obama’s jobs legislation, which Senate Republicans killed in a Tuesday night vote.

Job
Recently we had someone come to us asking how best to approach their LinkedIn connections to help them find a job. This is a tricky networking challenge isn’t it?
I wanted to share with you a few thoughts on this however none of these alone will be the quick fix answer. Networking effectively requires a combination of things in order to work well and hopefully these thoughts may give you a few ideas of where to start or what things to think about:
