Question:

I have an MA in Art Museum and Gallery Studies and a BA in English and Fine Arts. To go along with this, I also have monstrous student loans.

I am currently doing work at a university in the North East. The atmosphere is oppressive, the work unsatisfying and my manager is horrible. I have been trying to get out but am not sure what sort of jobs I can apply for. What other sectors could I take a look at?

Mass Layoffs Report – Updated Monthly

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that employers completed 1,273 mass layoffs in March, causing 121,310 newly laid-off workers to file initial claims for unemployment benefits. Mass layoffs decreased from February while initial claims increased.

Monthly mass layoffs decreased by 20 and the number of workers who filed initial claims for unemployment benefits increased by 1,847. Over the year mass layoff decreased by 2, but initial claims increased by 5,919. When not seasonally adjusted, March 2012 mass layoffs amounted to 1,125 and caused 117,817 initial claims.

When you don’t want to job search

Yesterday I went to the gym.

I didnt want to go, at all.  My body said NO!!  My workload said NO!!

But I went anyway.

I spent less time on the exercise bike than I normally do, and didnt do as much weightlifting as I normally do. I probably did about half of what I normally do.

But I went anyway.  And Im glad I did.

I didnt do as much, but I did something.

I know there are days in the job search when you dont want to do anything.  It seems futile and hopeless.
