different position

I recently held a long-term substitute position (four months) at a local high school. It looks like there is a possibility of a permanent full-time position opening up for this coming school year. What would you recommend including in the cover letter? How would you recommend opening the letter so that not just my name stands out?

Hi Kris. I’m not sure this would be allowable since it’s a school but did you have any direct dealings with any of the parents of your students who you could use as a reference? Specifically are there any parents who are familiar with your work with their children who’d be willing to give you a direct quote that you could include in your application cover letter? Including a direct quote is a great way to stand out from your competitors for the same job.

I would also consider – assuming it’s allowed – to get a reference from another teacher at the school and maybe even a student. Again, perhaps getting a reference from the student might be out of line so perhaps you could stick with a parent or other teacher.

Just a thought. Good luck!
